COMPANY PROFILE
The story of Vinchio Vaglio is the love story between the inhabitants of two small towns (Vinchio and Vaglio Serra), rivals for centuries, who chose to work together to promote a difficult, gaunt land, with steep slopes.
It is a land where the steep, overhanging vineyards have been "educated" through the course of time at the cost of great efforts. Barbera vineyards are planted in very close rows, lying steeply on the slopes, and adorn hills so beautiful that they have been recognized as a Unesco World Heritage Site.
Theirs is a strenuous production, because mechanization is impossible, making it necessary to intervene manually with high costs and low production rates.
Such heritage has been taken on by Vinchio Vaglio, whose managers have been working really hard since its foundation to reach a goal that carries something extraordinary within itself.
The cooperative, founded in 1959 by 19 winegrowers from both villages, currently includes nearly 200 contributing members, owners and tenants of about 500 hectares of vineyards. In order to make the most of the great potentialities of the grapes the vine-growers produce with so much effort and care, the winery employs modern equipment and facilities for winemaking, as well as French oak barrels for the aging of some wines.
Vinchio Vaglio was born striving to deliver the ever-lasting strong message that cooperation can make high quality products; from these premises were born great Barberas such as "Vigne Vecchie" the result of the grapes produced in the oldest vineyards (some of them are now 80-100 years old) now recognised internationally thanks to The Old Vine Conference founded by Sarah Abbott and others MW.
